ABSENCES  AND  MAKE UPS

Absences:

§           Being that PE is a participatory class, it is essential that students attend class regularly.

§           PE hours are state mandated and students must accumulate regular PE hours – therefore missed classes must be made up to receive PE credit.

§           Absences will affect a student’s grade if they are not made up.

§           It is important that each student checks with his/her teacher after returning from any absence to see exactly what work he/she missed.

Make Ups:

§           Two make up sessions are usually required for each absence (because of the block schedule).

§           However it is the responsibility of the student to see his/her teacher when they return from any absence to see exactly what he/she missed.

§           All make ups must be completed by the end of each grading period for credit.

§           Students should be on the blacktop in their PE clothes by the time make ups begin.

§           Students will not be admitted to make-ups if they are tardy.

§            * * * NEW THIS YEAR * * * Students must bring with them a MAKE UP FORM when attending PE make ups.

Make Up Schedule:

§          CLICK HERE FOR THE CURRENT PE MAKE UP SCHEDULE.

§           *ALL ABSENCES MUST BE MADE UP BY FRIDAY MAY 29th!

PE  CLOTHES

§           All students are required to dress everyday in their own clothing.

§           The PE uniform is designed to enhance safety, performance, hygiene, and comfort.

§           Some students may wish to purchase a second set of PE clothes to keep in their PE locker as back-ups.

§           PE clothes will be sold throughout the school year in both locker rooms.

§           See our LABELING YOUR PE CLOTHES and our DRESSING POLICY below for more information.

§           The Physical Education uniform consists of the following:

(1)    PJHS P.E. T-Shirt (must be tucked in): $10.00

(2)    Purple PE shorts:  $10.00

(3)    Athletic shoes that are tied tightly and fit snuggly (this is for safety and to maximize performance and participation).

(4)    Sweats (grey only) are optional but especially recommended for students during the winter season and/or students with morning PE classes.

- Sweats are to be worn over the regular PE uniform (so they can be removed if the student gets too warm during the class activities).

- PJHS Physical Education Sweatshirts and Sweatpants:  $15.00 each.

- Or you may wear your own sweats but they must be plain grey sweats only (no logo’s) and not the sweats you wore to school that day.

LABELING YOUR PE CLOTHES

All PE clothing must be labeled clearly as follows:

§           Use only the name plates to write on (no other extra writing)

§           For all labeling use your last name and first initial

§           Example:

                                  Smith, J

DRESSING  POLICY

A Non-Dress (ND) is defined as NOT wearing your own P.E. shirt (tucked in), Purple PE shorts, athletic shoes (tied tightly), and/or the proper sweats.  Grey sweats are to be worn over the regular PE uniform so if you get too warm you can still participate appropriately.

The consequences for a non-dress (ND) are as follows:

  • 1st ND = “F” for the day and a warning.

  • 2nd ND = “F” for the day, a referral to the office, and may include In School Suspension (ISS) for the period.

  • 3rd ND = “F” for the day, a referral to the office, lunch detention, and may include In School Suspension (ISS) for the period.

  • 4th ND = “F” for the day, a referral to the office, two lunch detentions, and may include In School Suspension (ISS) for the period.

  • 5th ND (and all following ND’s) = “F” for the day and student is referred to administration

Continued non-dresses will not only affect your grade, but may result in a parent/teacher/administrator conference.

MEDICAL  EXCUSES

A student’s grade during his/her medical excuse is based on the quality of his/her completed assigned work.

Parent Note:

§           Student is still expected to dress for P.E.

§           The parent note should specify a student’s restrictions or limitations.

§           The student will be given a modified activity, referee duty, or alternate assignment but should still participate to the best of their abilities.

§           A parent’s note will be good for only 2 classes; after that a doctor note is required.

§           Students who do not participate at all (or who miss specific assignments) may be required to do make-ups or make up work to receive full credit.

Doctor Note:

§           May excuse the student from dressing and/or limit their activity.

§           The doctor note should specify a student’s restrictions or limitations.

§           The student will participate in class activities with modifications as needed.

§           Students not participating at all (or on extended medicals) may be required to do make-ups or may be assigned alternate work to receive full credit.
